MISHELL COX

CEO/Owner of Cox Roofing
Zionsville, IN

At the young age of 16, Mishell Cox came to the United States by herself in order to live a normal life and complete her education. However, without any knowledge of the English language and a supportive upbringing, Mishell had to drop out of school in order to start working. Mishell started cleaning tables in restaurants that would allow her to work despite the language barrier. She worked hard to help support her siblings back home and managed to complete her GED with honors. After obtaining her GED, she wanted to further her education but did not qualify for financial aid due to her immigration status. This did not discourage her, in fact, she worked extra shifts at different restaurants in order to earn enough income to pay her way through school, leading up to her graduation from Indiana State University.

After getting married, Mishell and her husband had a vision to start the Cox Residential Construction Company. Almost a decade after establishing Cox Residential, the company made its way onto the INC. 5000 list and is known as one of the fastest growing companies. The company offers jobs to hundreds of people, generating an incredible support to the Latino community.

In addition to her commitment to her company, Mishell represents women in the labor market, such as the National Women in Roofing and the National Women in Business. Her dedication to her community has also lead her to become a part of the Rotary Club of Carmel, as well as the International Rotary Club, Indiana Segment. Furthermore, each year she collects resources to assist the less fortunate in Mexico and other Latin American countries.

Described as capable, bold, daring, passionate, generous, and a warrior to name a few, Mishell’s is leading the way for women in roofing. Her tenacity and hard work have lead her to achieve goals which characterize her as one of the most influential women in Indiana.
