Allen DragnettSpecialist Joe Y. is a Vietnam War Veteran, retired Specialist and Purple Heart Recipient. The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while serving. Joe served as an Army Paratrooper with 101st Airborne Division. He was wounded twice and spent months in the hospital during his enlistment; on one occasion he spent more than four months in the hospital. Joe’s hometown of Edinburg, TX is known as a “hometown of hero’s” for the two Congressional Medal of Honor Recipients and 88 fallen heroes. One of his great achievements was helping the city secretary and librarian make Edinburg a Purple Heart City - honoring the courageous military men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom. The Council of Edinburg proclaimed September 7th as Purple Heart Day in the City of Edinburg, through the hard work and dedication of Specialist Joe Y. Joe is a very proud resident of his community and continues to remember and pray for all heroes that made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. This Veteran is truly deserving of the Beacon of Hope.
